Hannah decided that this measuring cup would be her telephone, I don't know why....I don't use measuring cups as telephones but I went along with it :)

Auntie Megs

We had a very special visitor this week, we call her "Auntie Megs". She is one of my closest friends from the college years and I'm so glad we're still close even though we are miles and miles apart, she lives in Peoria, IL and is a school teacher. When she pulled up, Hannah and I went out to great her and Hannah immediately went into her arms, although the last time she saw her was when she was 6 weeks old. Megan just has something special about her and Hannah knew it. :) At times she was more content with Megan than she was with Matt or I!!

Megan and I had the best time, it was only two days, but we made the best of it! We shopped and talked and walked and talked and went to the pool and talked and just hung out and talked. I feel like I talked so much, but it was just good catch up time! I miss her and hope to visit her up in IL one day, but for now we're making this yearly to trip to SC a tradition :) Megan and I forgot to get a picture together, I could kick myself!

Hannah does not give out kisses very easily, but when Megan was telling her bye, she gave her three slobbery kisses in a row. I tear up just thinkin' about it. :)

Next week, Hannah and I are off to visit TN for a few days to stay with Mom, Dad, and Stef (who I haven't seen since April!!) and visit some friends and my Mamaw on the way back. So we're super excited about that!

Pigtails

I want Hannah to sport some cute little pigtails so bad, but it's just not working. Plus she wants to play with them so I guess I'll have to wait a little longer... Any suggestions?

Hannah's walker

Hannah needs some motivation and assistance learning to walk. She is pretty content with crawling around, like she was with the rolling...*sigh* She was more interested in walking BEFORE she learned how to crawl, so we decided to get her one of those funny walkers for babies. Its pretty much like what they have for the elderly, except with lights and sounds to get the babies excited. So far she is having fun with it and in just two days we can see a bit of a difference!






On a side note, mom mentioned I may have come across the wrong way in my "encouragement" post when I mentioned we don't buy Hannah lots of toys. Let me clarify, Hannah has toys and more than what she really needs probably. She has a little basket in the living room, our bedroom, and her room. We just don't want to get into the mindset of buying her every toy out there. I don't even walk down the toy isle because it's hard for ME not to buy her things every time we go to the store. We want her to have the mindset of being a giver and appreciating what she has. Right now her favorite toys are pulling books of the shelf and tupperware out of the cupboard, we have to encourage her to play with her real toys! Also, having a house without a lot of storage space has really challenged us to question what we need to keep and what is not needed. It has turned us into somewhat minimalists which has been a blessing. It's really nice not to have a lot of things cluttering your home. If we don't use it, give it away or sell it on craigslist :) haha I think I got a little sidetracked here, but just some thoughts so you know Hannah is not a deprived child. She gets lots of LOVE and that is the most important thing!

I'm just now unloading pictures from our trip to TN this past weekend. Since we've been home, it's been hot hot hot so we've been going to the pool and getting lots of vitamin D from the sunshine which leaves us pretty tired by the end of the day! We went to stay with Matt's family for the 4th of July weekend and had Hannah's 2nd, 1st Birthday party! haha She spent most the weekend and the party trying to get Lacy, the not so friendly kitty cat. She wasn't very interested in opening her presents, and she got some really cool stuff! She also was not too interested in her cake, once again. I tried a new recipe, but she just didn't want it. Mamaw Lizzy enjoyed it! It was an apricot wheat cake with apricot cream cheese icing. I even liked it and Hannah has been eating the leftover pieces I put in the freezer (without the icing) since we've been home, but she wouldn't dig in for her big audience. It was still entertaining. I did not take many pictures myself and I gave the camera to Matt, apparently on the wrong setting so most of the pictures I do have are blurred. SO... I'm hoping to get some pictures from other people's cameras.

We had another itty bitty baby at the party. Brooke and David's little 6 week old was there and she is super cute! Hannah wanted to touch her, but she doesn't know how to be very gentle in certain situations just yet, so we had to keep them separated.

On Sunday we took Hannah to church and she did really good in the nursery, which was a new place to her. We tried to eat mexican food after church, but they were all closed for the 4th of July, go figure! That night, Matt and I headed back to SC and we were able to see a little bit of each town's firework show. It was fun to be driving down the interstate and see fireworks ahead of you :) Maybe next year Hannah will get to see some fireworks!

25 going on 80...

So yesterday I turned the big 25, mid-twenties, YIKES! Matt says I'm going on 80 which is even worse. :( It's sadly true. It wasn't too many years ago that I was knocking on his door to play in the rain puddles with Amanda and I, because we we're silly and spontaneous like that. He turned us down, big surprise! I also used to jump off small waterfalls and twice, a 40 foot cliff at Rock Island. I went backpacking for up to 3 days at a time in the wilderness, not car camping ya'll, and bungie jumped, and got muddy often, and drove my little camry with a car full of girls on vacant icy parking lots in the winter (Yes...Mom and Dad, I did that...sorry). I had crazy fun and lots of it. I was fearless, and then I got married and moved to a place I didn't know, and had a baby, and the most exciting thing I've done in the last year is ride a go-cart through the country with Stefan because he made me.

Life has changed A LOT, but I love our predictable, simple, and slow-paced life. I like sitting on the front porch with Matt and watch the kiddos next door or our sometimes weird neighbors and talk about the "Good Ole Days" AKA College or our future. I like watching sports passively with Matt and reading a magazine or book at the same time. I do want to pass on my adventurous spirit to Hannah, but I don't necessarily like the idea of her jumping off things into water or a big bubble of air. So with that being said, I'm putting down my knitting needles and I'm going skydiving!!! Okay not really, but maybe one day...if Matt will go with me ;)
